Cool Struttin' is a 1958 album by jazz pianist Sonny Clark. Described as an "enduring hard-bop classic" by The New York Times, the album features alto saxophonist Jackie McLean, trumpeter Art Farmer and two members of the Miles Davis Quintet, drummer Philly Joe Jones and bassist Paul Chambers.
Recorded in 1958, this legendary date with the still-undersung Sonny Clark in the leader's chair also featured a young Jackie McLean on alto (playing with a smoother tone than he had before or ever did again), trumpeter Art Farmer, and the legendary rhythm section of bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Philly Joe Jones, both from the Miles Davis band.

Originally released in 1958 as BLP 1588.The "Blue Note Masterpiece Special Replica 15" series produced covers and labels to look like original U.S. issues: platters were made of heavy, thick vinyl; and there are no Japanese imprints except on a small paper insert. Limited Edition.

This album is certainly Sonny Clark's most successful recording artistically and commercially. When the album was made, the quintet made enough music for one and a half albums. The remaining titles (Royal Flush and Lover) were scheduled by Blue Note to be issued on BLP 1592, which the company never issued. It was only in the seventies that Blue Note in Japan issued that album.
For the purpose of this CD, we are happy to be able to offer the complete Cool Struttin' session by this great ensemble with Jackie McLean and Art Farmer.
