Essential: a masterpiece of progressive rock music(22%). It's obvious that Jaga Jazzist were set to break another career barrier with A Livingroom Hush and after listening to the album this quality really shines though on every single one of these compositions. Even if it might not be the prog purist's first choice of a masterpiece I certainly don't have any doubts on the issue!

A Livingroom Hush is the second album of Jaga Jazzist, released in 2001 by Ninja Tune under the authority of the Warner Music Group. The BBC named it the best jazz album of 2002. The album features ten instrumental songs, most of which having been composed by Lars Horntveth and Jørgen Munkeby. Performed by Jaga Jazzist. Mathias Eick - trumpet, keyboards, double bass.

A Livingroom Hush is the debut by Norwegian jazz/electronics outfit Jaga Jazzist, released in the United Sates on Ninjatune a year later. A Livingroom Hush is simply one of the most enigmatic outings to ever come out of either genre (and how many times can you say that?). Realized after the group had been together for nine years and led by the stunningly original compositions of Lars Horntveth (who began composing for the group when he was 14 in 1994), A Livingroom Hush is so deeply ingrained in its ensemble textures and striated harmonics that Jaga Jazzist almost never sounds like a big band.

Jazz meets glitch, on Jaga Jazzist's debut album A LIVINGROOM HUSH, with more of an emphasis on the jazz part. Lots of horns and instruments placed over skittering beats. In a word: excellent. This is a great album in the same vane as Tortoise. Really solid jazz on top of interesting electronic textures. Very cool instrumentation and the overall arch of the album is well-concieved creating an excellent beginning to end listen. Reply Notify me Helpful.

There was a difference to many of the other acts earning Norway its reputation at the time, though. Jaga Jazzist is what can only be described as a supergroup. Jaga Jazzist completely blindsided me and hit me like a sugarcoated semi-truck with the track Airborne randomly popping up on a FM broadcast in my car stereo in 2001 when the album first was released.

Jaga Jazzist is an experimental jazz band from Tønsberg, Norway, that rose to prominence when the BBC named their first official album, A livingroom hush (Smalltown Supersound/Ninja Tune), the best jazz album of 2002. The core of the band are brothers and main songwriters Lars Horntveth and Martin Horntveth. Martin formed Jaga Jazzist together with Ivar Christian Johansen in 1994 while they still were in their teens.

It is a true challenge. Born by passionate overdeveloped minds and cleverly designed to take the neophyte ones to a new level.

A Livingroom Hush is the second full-length album for Jaga Jazzist, who now reigns as one of the premier acts of forward looking record label Ninja Tune. Although each album received much critical acclaim, their latest album What We Must took the band to new heights and their popularity continues to rise. However, A Livingroom Hush finds a band with so many different possibilites in their sound and the intent to explore each and every one of them. Unlike What We Must, which roamed much further to the post-rock side of things, this album toes the line between acid jazz and electronica.

A Livingroom Hush is the debut album of Jaga Jazzist, released in 2001 by Ninja Tune under the authority of the Warner Music Group.
