Granted, Royal Blood’s debut self-titled album is pretty polished and without the fuzziness that would characterize this sound, but, still, two-piece blues rock bands are pretty much a dime a dozen these days in the wake of the White Stripes. However, this is a band that’s making waves. You know you’ve gotten attention when a bigger band wears your logo at a major rock festival. Now multiply that by 10, and you get their album. However, Royal Blood is pretty good at their one or two riffs that they constantly mine throughout their debut, and if you’re looking for a disc to party out to, you could do no wrong in picking this up. The guitars crunch as though you’re walking on a pile of dead leaves. The melody of the group’s song will certainly make you nod your head, or pump your fist in the air.

What makes the album unique is the fact that there isn't actually a guitar present. Never has a bass guitar sounded so much like a guitar through the use of just effects pedals. The songs themselves opt for big choruses, which is never a bad thing when you're writing an album, and is perhaps the reason they've become so popular so quickly. I was lucky enough to see Royal Blood at Reading Festival this year and they didn't disappoint. Unfortunately though, their current tour sold out in minutes and I was one of the unlucky ones.
