The Midsummer Station is the fourth studio album by American electronica project Owl City. It was released on August 17, 2012, by Universal Republic Records. After Owl City's previous album, All Things Bright and Beautiful (2011), sold 143,000 copies in the United States, Adam Young began working on demo tracks for The Midsummer Station in January 2012. Unlike his previous albums, Young worked with different songwriters and producers for the first time, including Stargate and Emily Wright.

Though Midsummer itself wasn’t celebrated in pagan, pre-Christian times, it’s likely there were other ceremonies and celebrations dedicated to the summer solstice. The iconic midsommarstång, or maypole, which is at the centre of the festivities, actually originated in Germany, most likely in the late 17th or early 18th century. People might tell you it’s a phallic symbol and that the holiday was originally meant to celebrate fertility, but there’s no evidence that this was the case – although it makes for a better story. Want to know where The Winters’ Tale is set? The setting of Shakespeare’s The Winters’ Tale is unusual in that the action is divided in two with sixteen years between them. This occurs in a mythical time: all we know is that the first half takes place at the Sicilian court of King Leontes during a cold winter. In the second half the setting has now become the Bohemian countryside in midsummer. The theme of cold court life versus the simple warm pastoral life are obvious in the settings. The death and social disruption of the first half give way to regeneration and forgiveness in the second

Midsummer is, apart from Christmas, one of the most important holidays in the Swedish calendar. Celebrate your Midsommar with smorgasbord, schnapps and singing. For some, midsummer is the most important. The successful midsummer never-ending lunch party formula involves flowers in your hair, dancing around a pole, singing songs while drinking unsweetened, flavoured schnapps. And downing a whole load of pickled herring served with delightful new potatoes, chives and sour cream. All in all, a grand day out.

Got a question? Post it in our forum!x. Dancing, feasting, drinking and a seemingly endless supply of sunlight: there’s a lot to like about Midsummer in Sweden. With the possible exception of the weeks leading up to Christmas, the other big festival on the Swedish calendar, it’s the best time of year to be a foreign visitor in the country. Midsummer – or midsommar – is still a huge deal across Sweden, with people young and old getting together to celebrate, either at large community events or smaller gatherings of friends and family

Joining a Midsummer Night celebration while visiting England gives travelers a glimpse into a world of music, magic and ancient rituals. Solstice, which falls between June 20 and 22, is when the sun reaches its peak in the sky. It’s a time to recognize growth, as well as the sun’s gradual decline into winter. For modern-day druids, pagans and mystics, the hours before sunrise are a time to celebrate, with some holding fast to the idea that on Midsummer’s Eve, the barrier between this world and the next disappears. Revelers can join in the celebrations at the nearby summer solstice festival, held at the closest campsite to Stonehenge, or simply visit the site for free between 7 . Join the crowds to wait for the sunrise, when the first rays align with the Heel Stone and Slaughter Stone, just outside the main circle.

A Midsummer Night's Dream is a play by William Shakespeare. The exact date the play was written is unknown. It is generally accepted that the play was written in 1595 or 1596. It was first printed in 1600. In 1623, the play was printed in the First Folio, a collection of all of Shakespeare's plays. Shakespeare's sources include works by Plutarch, Apuleius, Ovid, Geoffrey Chaucer, and Edmund Spenser. He found a description of Puck in Reginald Scot's The Discoverie of Witchcraft (1584).
