Joe's Garage is a three-part rock opera recorded by American musician Frank Zappa in September and November 1979. Originally released as two separate studio albums (a single album and a double album) on Zappa Records, the project was later remastered and reissued as a triple album box set, Joe's Garage, Acts I, II & III, in 1987
Joe's Garage was originally released in 1979 in two separate parts; Act I came first, followed by a two-record set containing Acts II & III. Joe's Garage is generally regarded as one of Zappa's finest post-'60s conceptual works, a sprawling, satirical rock opera about a totalitarian future in which music is outlawed to control the population. The narrative is long, winding, and occasionally loses focus; it was improvised in a weekend, some of it around previously existing songs, but Zappa manages to make most of it hang together. Even though Zappa himself hated punk rock and even says so on the album, his ideas seemed to support punk's do-it-yourself challenge to the record industry and to social norms in general. Since this is 1979-era Zappa, there are liberal applications of his trademark scatological humor (the titles of "Catholic Girls," "Crew Slut," "Why Does It Hurt When I Pee?," and "Keep It Greasey" are self-explanatory).

Album · 1979 · 19 Songs. As usual, Zappa tempers a number of styles, with touches of country-pop in the title track and stoned-out 70s rock wafting from "A Token of My Extreme. Most guitar solos have been taken from old live tapes and reformatted to the studio tracks. Watermelon in Eastern Hay," a track Zappa considered among his best, was an exception to this experiment. In fact, his son, Dweezil, is the only person allowed to perform this song, according to Zappa's last wishes

Joe's Garage Acts I, II & III. "Please retry". This particular bit is a textbook case of the Frank Zappa dichotomy: The music to such tracks as "Why Does It Hurt When I Pee?" is dramatic and powerful, but the lyrics are just what one would expect from seeing the title. Such puerile lyric content, and such spectacular music thrown together has a strange effect; instrumentally, it holds up against anything out there, but the lyrics come off as something a drunk 18-year-old would write.
