Waymon Reed (January 10, 1940, Fayetteville, North Carolina - November 25, 1983, Nashville, Tennessee) was an American jazz trumpeter. While he was principally a bebop soloist, he also worked in rhythm and blues (R&B). He was married from 1978 to 1981 to singer Sarah Vaughan. Waymon Reed "46th & 8th" The lone '79 leader date from Reed, who had been on the scene since the late 60's (Mostly in Basie's or James Brown's band), is featured here with Jimmy Forrest on Tenor, and Ella's rhythm section of Tommy Flanagan, Keter Betts, and Bobby Durham. His trumpet tone is light, clean, and lyrical, very pretty. The album sold 122,000 copies during its first week on release, giving the band a second US chart topper following 2000's 'Kid A', which sold an initial 207,000 copies. 2013, Claude Nobs the founder and general manager of the Montreux Jazz Festival died aged 76. During a 1971 Frank Zappa concert, at the Montreux Casino the venue caught fire.
