Amanda Lucy Foreman (born 1968) is a British/American biographer and historian. Her books include Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire, A World on Fire, and The World Made by Women. She also wrote and starred in a four-part documentary regarding the role of women in society, entitled The Ascent of Woman. Foreman was born in London. Her parents were Evelyn (Smith) and the screenwriter and film producer Carl Foreman (1914–1984).

Biographer Amanda Foreman describes astutely the mess that surrounded the personal relationships of the aristocratic subculture (Georgiana and the duke engaged for many years in a ménage à trois with Lady Elizabeth Fraser, who inveigled her way into the duke's bed and the duchess's heart). The author paints a vivid three dimensional portrait of Georgiana, the Duchess of Devonshire, with all her positive attributes and foibles laid bare for the reader. I got this book after I saw the movie "The Duchess" with Kiera Knightly. I usually don't read biographies, but this was so compelling, I couldn't put it down.

Amanda Foreman, The History of Erasing Women’s History. The Duchess if Devonshire is a good bio but Keira knightley was so obviously wrong for the film role. Anyway, this is my favourite portrait of Georgiana, it’s of her as Diana flying through the clouds. Linda Hirshman has written an important and necessary book that should be read in every school and every home in the country. Amanda Foreman, author of A World on Fire).
