Laid-Back/Mellow Melancholy Gentle Intimate Calm/Peaceful Delicate Nocturnal Romantic Sophisticated Wistful. Breezy and modern without borrowing from rock, The Wonderful World of Julie London delivers snappy performances of Cole Porter songs alongside contemporary numbers by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman in London's distinctive sultry voice. This was London's final charting album and is still an agreeable listen, but isn't as timeless and appealing as her traditional pop recordings.

THE VERY BEST OF JULIE LONDON is the most comprehensive of several compilations, containing fifty selections, including such signature songs as Cry Me A River, which she introduced in 1955, and Black Coffee and ’Round Midnight. London is often at her stylistic and vocal peak in this collection, giving knock-out renditions of standards like Blue Moon, As Time Goes By, Basin Street Blues, and Desafinado. The great shocker in the collection is a cover of Light My Fire. The song begins with a jazz flute and continues with bursts of what sound like harp and acoustic guitar and then drifts in a wash of strings. Strictly speaking, the vocal is classic London, but the song does not serve her talents well, to say the least-and interesting nonetheless.

She released her final studio album in 1969, but achieved continuing success playing the female starring role of Nurse Dixie McCall, in the television series Emergency! (1972–1979), in which she appeared opposite her real-life husband, Bobby Troup. The show was produced by her ex-husband, Jack Webb.
