Only with You" is yet another tender ballad given an excellent reading by Carl.

The Beach Boys: Album Guide. America’s longest-running band - from surf rock to studio symphonies and beyond. The Beach Boys pose for a portrait in 1964. From left to right, Carl Wilson, Dennis Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine and Brian Wilson. Gems/Redferns/Getty Images. The Beach Boys are America’s most legendary rock & roll saga-and one of its most turbulent, with a twisted family history at the heart of it. The Wilson brothers were suburban California boys: Brian, the haunted pop genius hearing the harmonies in his head. Carl, the shy kid with the heavenly voice. Further Listening: ‘Holland’ (1973). Holland is a messy but rewarding experiment in band democracy, full of quasi-prog touches. New guy Blondie Chaplin sings Sail On, Sailor their finest hit of the Seventies.
So, in late 1972, DJ Jack Rieley, the group’s manager (hired in 1971) made the decision to move the group and all their equipment to rural Holland, hoping that the change of scenery would inspire Brian back to his former creative self. Though the plan partially worked, with Brian contributing two songs and a full length EP, ‘Holland’ showcases some of the best group work of any Beach Boys albums. The album’s opener ‘Sail on Sailor’ is one of two Brian contributions. And it is perhaps the most memorable song on the album.
For each new Beach Boys album Carl Wilson comes clearer and clearer as the group's strongest vocalist. His performances on "Steamboat", "Only With You," "Funky Pretty" and not least his own "The Trader" are nothing less than convincing. The three Calfornia Saga suite songs are all strong. Nevertheless "Holland" is one of the band's strongest 1970s releases - unfortunately it would turn out to be the last truly great album from the Beach Boys.
The Beach Boys is the self-titled 25th studio album by American rock band The Beach Boys, released on June 10, 1985. Produced by Steve Levine, the album is the band's first recording after the drowning death of founding member Dennis Wilson. It was also the first of the band's albums to be recorded digitally and released on CD. It's also the last album released by James William Guercio's Caribou Records. Holland included a bonus EP, Mount Vernon and Fairway (A Fairy Tale), a musical fairy tale written by Brian Wilson about a magical transistor radio who appears to a young prince. Narration was provided by the group's manager: Jack Rieley. Just as Carl and the Passions – "So Tough" was coming to print, the Beach Boys, at manager Jack Rieley's urging, decided to pack up and record their next album in the Netherlands.
