Artist Peter Downsbrough: Peter Downsbrough: The two pipes are set up in the sense that the one pipe, the long one, is the standard pipe which is 21 feet, and 6 meters in metrics. That pipe was set in the ground to a depth of about 2 feet just to hold it, to be solid. And the other pipe was cut at some length, an indeterminate length. So there's the act of cutting, and then the distance was regulated between them. They were always 3 inches apart. Because they're rooted in the ground, it becomes more of a point in the landscape; and I mean for that cityscape or traditional landscape.

Peter Downsbrough has developed a strongly reduced visual vocabulary, which he uses to investigate the given space in a very personal and precise way. His material consists of letters and lines. He uses adhesive letters, forming conjunctions, prepositions, verbs and/or nouns and applies them to the walls, floors and/or ceilings. Metal pipes, in the space and sometimes on the wall, accentuate the space.

In FONS ÀUDIO Peter Downsbrough takes his works from the MACBA Collection as a springboard to talk about a relationship with photography spanning almost half a century, and about how it fits into the jigsaw puzzle of techniques and disciplines that make up his artistic vocabulary. We talk about space, cities, invisible lines, and the critical attitude that runs subtly through his practice. Ràdio web MACBACheck out more information about the audio. This program is a Ràdio web MACBA production.
