I'd say "Beyond the Ocean" pretty fairly summarizes the sound of CMI in 1995. Was I the only person who thought the Swans seriously needed to do an album with Karmanik and friends? Could you imagine what a high achievement sounds like these would build behind something like "God Damn the Sun"?

What you get on this CD is a collection of strange gloomy ambient sounds, tribal soundscapes and dark neoclassical songs. Lindh's voice is deep and dramatic and merges perfectly with Bjärlind's music. "Gear Wheeling" is surely their masterpiece. "Hymns Of Deceased Deities" is their best work to date, a lot better than the much boring "Ignoto Deo". A pity they missed to include the two songs from the "2x6 The Dimension Of a Coffin" compilation, especially the gorgeous "Satans Flute"! They would have risen this CD to perfection.
