Stereophonics - Language. Sex. Violence. Other? download mp3 album
Other? is the fifth studio album by alternative rock band Stereophonics. Produced by Kelly Jones and Jim Lowe, it was released on 14 March 2005 (22 March 2005 in the .
Other? The album title borrows from the classification code used on the backs of DVDs, and its blunt display instantly pulls listeners toward Stereophonics' nonchalant chutzpah. Jones and bassist Richard Jones have never sounded more brash. The punk-inspired spark that made their 1997 debut, Word Gets Around, so impressive is rekindled. This 11-song set, which features quick and curt one-word song titles, is matched with sex appeal and an unshakable confidence.
Other? is a magnificent album. All killer, no filler. The band agreed they wanted to make something that was very different from their last album. Something that captured the listener straight away, but something that also had a lot of depth. The song titles would all be one word. It would have the energy of their first album, 1997's Word Gets Around, but it would use production tricks Stereophonics had learned along their way to becoming one of Britain's most successful rock bands. It would be a very modern record.

Other? As frontman and writer Kelly Jones has himself said, this album is "rockier and in your face" compared to You Gotta Go There To Come Back, but a fair bit has happened since then. The biggest change being that founder member and drummer Stuart Cable was unceremoniously dumped, replaced on tour by Steve Gorman (ex-Black Crowes) with Javier Weyler becoming the more permanent fixture. Its gravely texture is still there but has been overtaken by a much louder and stronger sound. Just like the "Doorman" of the second track, this album has bucket loads of attitude with stomping drums and hardcore guitars, and the swaggering really starts to get going on the next track, "Brother". Current single "Dakota" leapt to the top of the charts and is definitely the catchiest song with real mainstream appeal.

This sleazy opener sets the tone for the album perfectly with its laid back groove and Kelly Jones' excellent falsetto vocals in the verse and his usual gravelly sound for the chorus. The chorus is much darker than the verse providing contrast. There are also two guitar solos with Kelly using his wah pedal to great effect.
With its chiming guitars, toe-tapping tune and catchy chorus, the first single, Dakota, is easily the poppiest song here, although the midtempo Rewind, with shimmering background sounds and shades of 1980s U2, could be the bigger hit. Elsewhere, Stereophonics meld 1970s rock riffs to grooves with more mixed results.
