Monster Movie is the debut studio album by German rock band Can, released in August 1969 by Music Factory and Liberty Records. In 1968 Can had produced an album entitled Prepared to Meet Thy Pnoom, which no record company agreed to release (recordings were eventually released on LP in 1981 as part of Delay 1968).

Monster Movie was released in 1969, and is Can's most rock-oriented album by a considerable margin. Its songs are raw and aggressive- very much informed by The Velvet Underground's larval trance-rock- and they mark Malcolm Mooney as nothing if not an inspired amateur. Father Cannot Yell" leaps out of the gate with a hi-speed keyboard flutter and the snap of Jaki Liebezeit's snare.
Monster Movie enjoys the distinction of being the only album released during the Can's original decade as a band on which Malcolm Mooney performed all of the vocals. Two more Mooney songs appeared on 1970's Soundtracks album, with the majority featuring his replacement, Damo Suzuki. 20 years after Monster Movie, Mooney would reunite with Can to record the album Rite Time.

CAN have Malcolm Mooney on vocals here, but he lays the groundwork Damo Suzuki would so effectively shatter.
Previously the band had been known as "Inner Space", which later became the name of their purpose-built recording studio. Monster Movie brings together elements of psychedelic rock, blues, free jazz, world music and other styles, the influence of the Velvet Underground being particularly obvious on the opening track "Father Cannot Yell".
