I might just as well wonder whether Yann Novak will ever manage to disappoint me even slightly, be it in the very slightest, as there really aren't many artists, especially soundwise consistent ones like him, that didn't once or twice in the long run, and somewhat necessarily I guess. This however is not the day. Instead I find myself once more rejoicing and what a beauty! Almost a tad too short at about 30 minutes, since to me these kinda feel like 5, no kidding. Delicate, disorienting, utterly engulfing, itself always untouchable yet touching you everywhere: Novak at his best

Yann Novak’s Surroundings was commissioned for the Hamon Observation Tower at the de Young fine arts museum in San Francisco. It became the very atmosphere of the place, as well as ushering out the sound of the city and the local park. Its ambient citizenship looked down at the loud, blaring city with a hushed disposition, watching the daily grind from on high. Higher altitudes gave the music first a sense of peace and then of distance. Spaciousness was born out of that parental bond
