Giovanni Pergolesi Composer. Eivind Aadland Conductor. European Community Chamber Orchestra. Concerto for Cello and Strings. Nicola (Antonio) Porpora Composer. 8) Concerti per quartetto, F minor. After hearing the richness of the first of Durante's set of eight Concerti per quartetto you may wonder why the gramophone has been less generous to them than to the Concerti grossi of Handel and Corelli; it is quite simply a gem. Porpora was celebrated as a singing teacher; here the voice is that of Sollima's cello, impressively brought to life with alert regard to style, weight of tone and economy of vibrato I have indulged in the luxury of listening to this track several times already.

Eivind Aadland (born 19 September 1956) is a Norwegian conductor and violinist. He has been concert master of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. Aadland was Chief Conductor and Artistic Leader of the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra from 2004-2010, and maintains a regular relationship with many Scandinavian orchestras, including the Oslo and Bergen Philharmonics, Stavanger Symphony and Swedish Chamber Orchestra.

Born near Ancona, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (born Jesi 1710, died Pozzuoli 1736) was sent to Naples at the age of fifteen to complete his musical studies. He achieved unexpected fame, probably as a result of two of his works, the intermezzo La Serva Padrona and his Stabat mater; at his early death contemporaries believed that they had lost a genius. He belongs to the school of composers like Jommelli, Traetta, Vinci, Piccinni and Paisiello, all of whom studied with the master Durante and whose simplistic works became immensely popular with the ry public.

Giovanni battista pergolesi. Concerto for 2 Harpsichords & Orchestra. 09. I. Allegro non assai. The Neapolitan Baroque, especially in the first half of the eighteenth century, was a vibrant and vital time for instrumental music, as Josetxu Obregón and La Ritirata now demonstrate with their new recording of six concertos from that era. The Neapolitan school – which owed so much in its formation to Francesco Provenzale – flourished in the hands of Francesco Mancini, Nicola Porpora, Nicola Fiorenza, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi and Alessandro Scarlatti, all represented with concertos on this new Glossa recording
