With 'Painless' Sanzu aren't really selling out but you would be naive to think that the chugging riffs, breakdowns and sickeningly sterile production are not the result of influence from djent and deathcore. everything screams shameless Gojira worship. Those last four words could actually apply to much of the album. While the endless stream of tremolo lines and squealing chords lack flair, they make up for it with consistent pacing and prophetic vocal performances as on Lunar Crush.
Download Painless by Sanzu on the independent record store by musicians for musicians. Taking inspiration from old-school death metal such as Morbid Angel and fusing it with influence from modern metal like Gojira, Sanzu has formed a unique presence. Guitar riffs like melodic saw blades meets savage bass along with powerful drumming to form a rhythm section that thunders and grooves in unison with unrestrained vocal assaults. Made up of musicians from Perth, including Drummer - Ben Stanley (ex Malignant Monster), Vocalist - Zachary Andrews, Bass - Fatima Curley, Guitarists - Mikey Hart (debut) and 'Century' (ex Malignant Monster/ex Animistic).
Sanzu – Painless (Self-Released). Sunday, 7th June 2015 By Kyle McGinn. It’s amazing how often a band description can be so misleading and inaccurate. While trying to appeal to the most people, band’s often cite a multitude of sounds like comparisons. As their debut album, certainly more of the influences are going to shine through as they begin to develop their own sound. The backbone of Painless is a strong one, combining the old with the new in such a way that doesn’t disservice either. Sanzu should be a name to watch in the future given the strength of this initial offering. Sanzu – Home is Where the Heavy is.
