Echo & the Bunnymen is the fifth studio album by the English post-punk band Echo & the Bunnymen, their last with drummer Pete de Freitas, who died in 1989 in a motorcycle accident, aged 27. The album was produced by Laurie Latham who recorded the album in Germany, Belgium, London and Liverpool; this followed an aborted attempt at recording the album without de Freitas and with producer Gil Norton.

I love Echo and the Bunnymen since their beggining, but never had a chance to watch them alive! Their new album Meteorites is such a masterpiece and brings their sound to the place where it belongs. Ian McCulloch's (melo)dramatic, psychedelic crooner vocals and frequent forays into quasi-religious lyrical imagery are something you just have to accept without overthinking it, but the fact is that this band made that kind of stuff sound great.

Echo and Bunnymen eventually led to death and hollow reverberation. Twisted trees were hacked but not quite felled. Echo & The Bunnymen ‎(Cass, Album, Club, CRC). Building on their reputation of moody atmospheres and psychedelic concept albums, Echo and The Bunnymen climbed to dizzying heights back in the mid 1980’s, with the release of Ocean Rain, seeming to be their un-reproachable crowing achievement, an album that would not be bested until Reverberation, without Ian McCulloch, found its way onto the airwaves. Never the less, in 1987 Echo and The Bunnymen purposely turned a significant corner and dived successfully into new territory by releasing this brilliant gem filled with a cohesive mix of more radio friendly tunes.
