The Ghosts of Pripyat by Steve Rothery, released 21 September 2014 1. Morpheus 2. Kendris 3. Old Man Of The Sea 4. White Pass 5. Yesterday's Hero 6. Summer's End 7. The Ghosts of Pripyat Includes guest appearances by Steve Hackett and Steven Wilson. Sven B. Schreiber Steve Rothery is one of the "good guys" of prog. I appreciate it very much that his music doesn't sound like "Marillion" at all, although he's a founding membef of the band. He's a brilliant guitar player, but fortunately doesn't misuse his skills for mere egomaniacal presentations. The keyboards on this album are played by another excellent musician and composer in his own right - Riccardo Romano ("RanestRane", "Riccardo Romano Land").
Steven Rothery (born 25 November 1959) is an English musician. He is the original guitarist and the longest continuous member of the British rock band Marillion. Outside Marillion, Rothery has recorded two albums as part of the duo the Wishing Tree and an instrumental solo album, The Ghosts of Pripyat, released in September 2014. He also founded the British Guitar Academy in 2011.
Only for completionists (3%). Ghosts of Pripyat, a release by perpetually underrated Marillion guitarist Steve Rothery, is a haunting, nuanced, and richly layered album of rock expressionism that more than checks off everything needed for a great instrumental album. First, it showcases the performer's talent. Rothery is one of the best not because of up-front technical brilliance or dexterity, but because he understands what makes soulful music, and is masterful at expressing himself through his instrument.

As Steve Rothery is a guitarist, there is of course a large emphasis on the guitar work. Fortunately he is good at his job and manages to drive the sound to its destination with broad, overarching notes, speedy portions with a light distort, and intricate acoustics. The production is crisp and clear with a remarkable attention to detail on the layering of the various guitar tracks as they intertwine and build off one another. The Ghosts of Pripyat is an album that you can be drawn into on some occasions, or at times merely skip over the surface. While repetitive mechanics do hinder the entertainment value, the music progresses in an unimpeded flow towards a logical and planned conclusion that will leave the attentive listener satisfied.
Legendary Marillion guitarist and founding member Steve Rothery recently ran a highly successful Kickstarter campaign for his much anticipated solo album The Ghosts of Pripyat. The album is set for release through InsideOutMusic on the 2nd of February 2015 (Europe) and the 24th of February (North America). The crowd-funding campaign for the album reached its target in just 24 hours, with Steve stating: I have been amazed and humbled at the support I’ve received.
