Pearl Jam (sometimes referred to as The Avocado Album or simply Avocado) is the eighth studio album by American alternative rock band Pearl Jam, released on May 2, 2006 on J Records. It was Pearl Jam's first and only release for J Records, their last album issued by Sony Music. It was the band's first full-length studio release in almost four years, since Riot Act (2002)

Pearl Jam. The Seattle band's opening statement set the stage for a musical movement and a decades-long alt-rock dynasty. In late 1991, two albums arrived to change music forever: Nirvana's Nevermind and Pearl Jam's Ten. Together, the two Seattle bands ended an era of hair metal and introduced their decidedly different brands of grunge music to the mainstream. Pearl Jam itself came together by chance in the vibrant early '90s Seattle music scene. Guitarist Stone Gossard and bassist Jeff Ament joined forces in Mother Love Bone in 1988 after their previous band, Green River, called it a day. While preparing for the release of their 1990 debut, Apple, singer Andrew Wood died of a heroin overdose in March of that year. With the band abruptly over, they both retreated to reflect and write.

Without this album Pearl Jam would be not nearly as popular. Even if other albums sound better, this one was the most influential. I hate going with "the popular opinion" but this really is their best album. Not that they haven't put out great albums since, they definitely have, all of them are great. But this is still their best. Has to be, really, despite the predictability of the choice. They have produced so much great music since, but nothing quite as consistently powerful and beautiful as this. One of the most moving albums I've ever heard.

Eddie frequently wore this shirt from Pearl Jam's performance at the 1992 Rock for Choice concert at The Hollywood Palladium in LA. The annual concert was organized by L7 Official to raise awareness for abortion rights. Continue the fight by donating to Planned Parenthood: p. nk. Pearl Jam. 16 June at 10:25 ·. Nirvana's Nevermind may have been the album that broke grunge and alternative rock into the mainstream, but there's no overestimating the role that Pearl Jam's Ten played in keeping them there. Nirvana's appeal may have been huge, but it wasn't universal; rock radio still viewed them as too raw and punky, and some hard rock fans dismissed them as weird misfits
