Jimi Hendrix - Presents The Band Of Gypsys download mp3 album
Band of Gypsys is a live album by Jimi Hendrix and the first without his original group, the Jimi Hendrix Experience. It was recorded on January 1, 1970, at the Fillmore East in New York City with Billy Cox on bass and Buddy Miles on drums, frequently referred to as the Band of Gypsys. The album mixes funk and rhythm and blues elements with hard rock and jamming, an approach which later became the basis of funk rock.
This was the second time producer Alan Douglas supervised a Hendrix record for the label, the first being the live mini LP Johnny B. Goode, which was released earlier the same year
About the album: Machine Gun: The Fillmore East First Show 12/31/69 documents the debut performance of Jimi Hendrix's short-lived but eternally influential, Band of Gypsys. The group played four historic concerts at the Fillmore East in New York City, two on New Year's Eve 1969, and two on New Year's Day 1970.
Band of Gypsys was the only live recording authorized by Jimi Hendrix before his death. Helping him out were longtime friends Billy Cox on bass and Buddy Miles on the drums because the Experience had broken up in June of 1969, following a show in Denver. This rhythm section was vastly different from the Experience. Buddy Miles was an earthy, funky drummer in direct contrast to the busy, jazzy leanings of Mitch Mitchell.
History will tell that Hendrix had to release one more album for contractual reasons. It was then decided to get a live album out of the four concerts of the legendary performances at the Fillmore East on these evenings of December 31st, 1969 and January 1st, 1970.
The Band of Gypsys album that was released following the performances is made up of only recordings from the last two nights, January 3rd and 4th, but it showcases some of the best live material ever recorded, and would turn out to be Hendrix’s last full album release before his untimely death in September 1970. Band of Gypsys is full of catchy riffs with heavy distortion and wah effects that made Jimi Hendrix so famous
