Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea: A Tour of the Underwater World (French: Vingt mille lieues sous les mers: Tour du monde sous-marin, "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas: A Tour of the Underwater World") is a classic science fiction adventure novel by French writer Jules Verne published in 1870. The novel was originally serialized from March 1869 through June 1870 in Pierre-Jules Hetzel's periodical, the Magasin d'Éducation et de Récréation.

Just five years after Walt Disney released "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" JULES VERN & JAMES MASON (Captain Nemo) MEET AGAIN in 20th Century-Fox's production of "Journey to the Center of the Earth" released in 1959. Despite stinking of copycat in some aspects, this is still a great movie in its own right. SPOILER WARNING! Unfortunately, its trailer may give away a bit too much of this particular adaptation to those who have never seen it before.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1997 Village Roadshow film). 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is a 1997 two-part television miniseries produced by Village Roadshow Pictures, based on the novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne. It was written by Brian Nelson and directed by Rod Hardy. The Nautilus has been sinking and damaging ships and is at first thought to be a giant narwhal.

well-known British actor, had appeared in Disney's Technicolor live-action version of The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men (1952). Mason especially was singled out for his performance of Captain Nemo  . On January 29, 2008, Walt Disney Records released a 26-track digital album containing the music of Paul Smith's original soundtrack score to 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea plus both sides of the "A Whale of a Tale" single, as well as a digital booklet companion that explores the music of the film.

The action in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea begins in New York in the spring of 1867 and finishes over a year later in northern Norway. The story carries its protagonists across the surface of the globe to the South Pole and back, and far down into the depths of the oceans. The Nautilus itself is the true setting of the novel; it is the imaginative device that makes the action of the novel possible. Designed by Captain Nemo, the electrically powered Nautilus is two or three hundred feet long, capable of speeds far greater than surface ships of the day, and able to dive to great depths. 1. Professor Aronnax is the narrator of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. What thematic advantages do you see in his being the narrator? 2. Captain Nemo is an enigmatic character.

This is THE ONLY translation of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea that you should read! This book is amazing and actually rights the translation wrongs done to Verne by early translators! In English, 20K is relegated to "Juvenile Fiction" while in France and the rest of the World, this book is still a best selling ADULT Science Fiction (or Scientific Novel as Verne called his work). This book and its annotations explain some of the subtle and genius details that Verne included but were mistranslated and misattributed as mistakes made not by the translator, but by poor Jules.
