An extended play record, often referred to as an EP, is a musical recording that contains more tracks than a single, but is usually unqualified as an album or LP. Contemporary EPs generally contain a minimum of three tracks and maximum of six tracks, and are considered "less expensive and time-consuming" for an artist to produce than an album.

Diversions was written in 1940 for the pianist Paul Wittgenstein who commissioned worth for the left hand after loosing his right arm during World War I. The work is laid out as a series of etudes for piano and orchestra. Rather than make the left hand sound like two, as Ravel did with his concerto for Wittgenstein, Britten writes for one hand. Britten’s Piano Concerto in D major, Opus 13 is finally getting ample exposure and with every listening the beauty of the work becomes more evident. Osborne’s interpretation is clear, focused and fully realized. It is s fine gesture to pair this concerto with the Diversions for piano left hand and orchestra, Opus 21 a each work enhances the other and demonstrates Britten’s keen skill with the keyboard. But the real joy of this recording is the Young Apollo for piano, string quartet and string orchestra. It is a brilliant work and the history behind it is worthy of repeating.
