Sure there are the hits, 'Fire Woman', 'Edie' and 'Sweet Soul Sister' but what makes this album their opus is that each and every song carries much weight and could have all been staples on FM radio. The drumming (Mickey Curry of Bryan Adams fame) is exceptional beyond belief tightening up the rhythm section finally enhancing the vocal prowess of Ian Astbury and the riff-fueled genius of Billy Duffy. Bob Rock pulls this all together with his patented slick production polish. A must-have for Cult fans and a great introduction to their music for newbies

Billboard estimates that Sonic Temple has sold over . million copies in the United States, as the RIAA certified it platinum in January 1990 for 1 million sales, and it has sold 429,000 copies since 1991, according to Nielsen Music. Its songs have generated 17 million on-demand audio streams. Sun King opens the album with the declaration, This is where it all ends, and The Cult makes its presence known with the glorious build of the song’s opening: a shimmering of cymbals and a supple, pulsing bassline before Duffy’s guitar explodes and the track transforms into strutting hard rock. Fire Woman continues this notion, with the singer in awe of a woman who leaves him swaying.

The album catapulted THE CULT into superstar status and remains their most commercially successful release. It has sold over . million copies in the . alone and was certified platinum in 1990. It made it to on the Billboard charts, and the aforementioned songs all remain rock-radio staples to this day. The set list for the "A Sonic Temple" tour draws from THE CULT's 10 studio albums with the centerpiece being a super set that's focused on the core songs from Sonic Temple; some of these songs have not been performed since the album was originally released.
