Use Your Illusion II is the fourth studio album by the American hard rock band Guns N' Roses. The album was released on September 17, 1991, the same day as its counterpart album Use Your Illusion I. Both of the albums were released in conjunction with the Use Your Illusion Tour. Bolstered by the lead single You Could Be Mine, Use Your Illusion II was the slightly more popular of the two albums, selling 770,000 copies its first week and debuting at No. The thematic material deals less with drug use than previous Guns N' Roses albums. Use Your Illusion I featured mostly songs pre-Appetite for Destruction while Use Your Illusion II featured more tracks written during and after Appetite For Destruction. It is the last Guns N' Roses album to feature rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin. It also included the last Guns N' Roses song to feature drummer Steven Adler, who played on Civil War.
Featuring no less than four songs that run over six minutes, II is heavy on epics, whether it's the charging funk metal of "Locomotive," the antiwar "Civil War," or the multipart "Estranged. As if an attempt to balance the grandiose epics, the record is loaded with an extraordinary amount of filler
With enough music for two albums, Guns N' Roses released Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II the same day. Use Your Illusion albums debuted at number 2 and 1 respectively on the Billboard charts, setting a record as they became the first and only band to date to achieve this feat. Released: September 17, 1991. Several album titles were dropped such as Gn'R Sucks or even Girth. Finally, Use Your Illusion was picked out. The cover art of both Use Your Illusion albums is a detail from Raphael's painting The School of Athens colored by Mark Kostabi. For Use Your Illusion albums the band worked on 37 songs including "Ain't Goin' Down", "Night Crawler", "Bring It Back Home", "Crash Diet", "Sentimental Movie" and "Just Another Sunday".

With the new lineup intact, Guns N' Roses started putting together the disc in 1990, spending nearly a year on the recording. The band made use of numerous studios, including A&M, Record Plant, Studio 56, Image Recording, Conway Studios and Metalworks Recording Studios. Ever the perfectionists, the band also mixed 21 tracks with engineer/producer Bob Clearmountain, but later scrapped the mixes, starting from scratch with Bill Price handling the mixing. The first song to arrive came from the Use Your Illusion II album. The propulsive rocker "You Could Be Mine" was used for their soundtrack of the film Terminator 2: Judgment Day after Arnold Schwarzenegger personally invited the band to dinner at his home to negotiate a deal.
