Immortal is most definitely a Jem of a track! Most people I feel at the time would of probably thought this an odd 12 on Frontline, because this was definitely not frontline's usual jungle/DnB sound, in turn doing this tune or 12 a probable disservice, had it of come out on one of the darker labels from the time I'm sure more people would be aware of this killer. Guaranteed to turn a few heads on the dance floor, each time I have played this tune I have had at least one person ask me "What the @ is this!?. what labels is it on!?" which brings a smile to my face ;-) Its all a mater of personal taste but I liked interview with a vampire and I remember thinking "wow" that would. make a great sample, lucky for us so did Zenith and he created a beast of a track to use it in!

First heard "immortal" in a DJ Hype set I recorded from the radio. Jaw dropped... I loved that tune so much, it was so perfectly mixed into "Red Weed (Makai Remix)"... this music had a strong urban, futuristic sense to it, it smelled concrete and rubber tires and spilled szechuan sauce, loneliness & strength... maybe that's how London is, but I didn't live there... never knew by whom the track was, only years later I finally came across it when checking out records in a store. Bingo! Never would have thought this is Zinc, and I was a big Zinc fan at the time.

Only just found out tonight that Zinc was behind this techstep beast of a tune. Would never have imagined it. "Immortal" is still killing it 22 years later.

It's around this period you get a sense of Pascal wanting to change the direction of the labels sound moving into darker and more abstract and experimental territory...which for me was a good move, it was 97 after all in general a very creative period within DnB ...although it never really amounted to more than a few 12's including this release as a stand out efforts on Frontline IMO.Guaranteed to turn a few heads on the dance floor, each time I have played this tune I have had at least one person ask me "What the @#*@ is this!? ...what labels is it on!?" which brings a smile to my face ;-) Its all a mater of personal taste but I liked interview with a vampire and I remember thinking "wow" that would make a great sample, lucky for us so did Zenith and he created a beast of a track to use it in! Real nice to mix is the added bonus with its long intro and sweeping galactic synth build up until a very young Kirsten Dunst softly whispers.."I want some more" Tom Cruise replies..."of course you want more" ....The Amen kindly obliges 8)Any darkside collection should have this underrated or just plain under-heard tune firmly in it. Powerful stuff !!

You nailed it on this one. Stays in rotation, when it's time to get evil! ????

Always been a big Frontline fan but only discovered this one recently. A secret dj weapon no question!
  • Throw her heart
Oh my gosh! This release here contains a real secret weapon on the flipside. 'Immortal' is a seriously underrated tech-step monster.Introducing us to the familiar 2-step breakbeat that was on nearly every track of the era. However, things get interesting with the addition of an immense, bass heavy, twisting synth loop before hitting the drop with it's 'I want some more...' sample from the lame vampire flick 'Interview With A Vampire'. Then it's time for a heavy amen pummeling to get your feet moving. An awesome tune with some excellent teasing before the payoff. 'Damaged' on the A-Side is a more straight forward dark track with moody atmospheric and pitched down amen breaks. An effective tune but not as good as it's companion.
