Australian indie-folk outfit The Paper Kites will release their sophomore album, twelvefour on Nettwerk Records August 28th. Produced by Phil Ek (Father John Misty, Fleet Foxes, Band of Horses), it is the follow up to the band’s debut album States. Written entirely between midnight and four in the morning, twelvefour is a concept record that explores the theory that an artist’s creative peak lays within these hours. The Paper Kites’ music has been featured on numerous television shows including ABC’s Forever and Grey’s Anatomy, as well as The CW’s Reign.

Compared to their previous releases (EP's and their first studio album 'States') Twelvefour has a more upbeat and electronic vibe though staying true to their original sound which consists of a mix between folk and americana. All the album's lyrics have been written by Sam Bentley, also being the lead-singer of the band.

Twelvefour is The Paper Kites' second studio album, released on 28 August 2015. The album is considered to be a concept album. Working from the theory that an artist was most creative between 12 and 4, songwriter Sam Bentley limited himself to those hours when composing the songs that comprise this album (hence the title). The Paper Kites’ Twelvefour trailer (below) offers an insight into the making of the album, which frontman Sam Bentley says is based around a certain time of day. The album is a concept record, based around a theory that an artist’s creative peak is between the hours of midnight and 4am, Bentley says. I am a little confused about the ratings for this record. Everyone seems to complain about background noise but still gives it a five star rating?
  • Bumand
Love this band. Love this album. It is perfect from start to finish...but holy shit does this pressing sound horrible. So far I've talked to 1 other person who agrees the glow in the dark vinyl pressing is crappy. There is a white noise hissing under the music the entire album.
  • Nenayally
There is a purple Release and then this one which is creamy clear. Typical glow in the dark looking record.
  • Llallayue
What color is the vinyl itself? I'm trying to determine if the purple and glow in the dark are the same or different.
  • Justie
For some reason, mine doesn't glow in the dark. I do have the glow in the dark variant.
  • Conjulhala
Agreed, the surface noise is not good. but the music is great! I sort of expected the surface noise considering its a glow in the dark vinyl.
