We Speak Etruscan by Lee Hyla. Lee Hyla's music is profoundly individual. Its extremes of expression are all unmistakable facets of one wide-ranging musical personality.

Lee Hyla: We Speak Etrusc. has been added to your Cart. Lee Hyla is quite a unique and fascinating voice in the post -post-modern music world. There are works on this disc of nervous, jazzy anthropomorphic chatter between an ecclectic ensemble of reed instruments. It certainly sounds like a caffienated and jumpy, odd, staccatto conversation between winds who are straight-jacketed. The most so in the title piece, "We speak Etruscan". In spite of the extreme contrasts inherent in all of the pieces on this album (witness the heartbreakingly ethereal opening of the String Quartet No. 3 as it evolves inexorably into nailbiting tension) - Hyla is never chaotic. He is the master of control. He will make you hold your breath one minute, sigh the next, and laugh a minute later.

By Lee Hyla, Speculum Musicae. Lee Hyla: Lives of the Saints.
