Naughty by Nature is the self-titled second album from Naughty by Nature, released on September 3, 1991 through Tommy Boy Records. Naughty by Nature is a hip hop group that at the time of its formation in 1991, consisted of Treach, Vinnie, and the DJ Kay Gee. The group formed in East Orange, New Jersey, and first appeared on the music scene in the late 1980's releasing an album titled The Independent Leaders, under their then name The New Style. The album generated the minor hit "Scuffin' Those Knees". After the release of their first album, the group was subsequently mentored by fellow New Jersey native Queen Latifah and consequently changed their name.
Fellow New Jersey native Tony D, a respected and prominent producer, accused Naughty by Nature of stealing a sample from his breakbeat album Music Makes You Move and using it on their track ". The matter was settled out of court. Between albums, the group also scored a major hit with the track "Uptown Anthem",with keyboards by producer David Bellochio, from the soundtrack to the 1992 film Juice. In the mid-1990s Naughty by Nature started their own music imprint, Illtown Records, and in 1995 released an album from their protégés the Rottin Razkals. The group (mainly Kay Gee & David Bellochio) worked closely with a number of R&B groups over the next few years particularly Zhane and Next. Kay Gee produced Next's "Too Close", which became a hit in 1998. In 1999 the group released its fifth album, titled Nineteen Naughty Nine: Nature's Fury.

Naughty by Nature was rappers Treach and Vinnie, and DJ Kay Gee. Treach, who was 20 when this came out, wrote the lyrics and was lead rapper on this. Treach got the idea for the lyrics from a drug dealer in his neighborhood that used to move in on other dealer's territory and say he was "Down With . Other People's Money. It's kinda like another way to call a cat a kitty. It depends on your views but the last P stands for partners or if you are possessive it stands for property - people who realize they don't own their partners are down with OPP but the gender relative alternatives are other peoples pussy or other peoples penis. Joe talks about the challenges of of making a Duke Ellington tribute album, and tells the stories behind some of his hits.
