At the Woodstock Festival is a live album by Indian classical musician Ravi Shankar that was released in 1970 on World Pacific Records. It was recorded on 15 August 1969, during the first day of the Woodstock Festival in upstate New York. Shankar's set took place during a downpour and he later expressed his dissatisfaction with the event due to the prevalence of drugs among the crowd.

As the rain began to fall, the Indian Sitar Maestro entranced the festival crowd with a set that was both virtuosic and spiritual. Tabla Solo In Jhaptal. Raga Manj Kmahaj (AIap, Jor, Dhun In Kaharwa Tal). Melanie’s solo set was short but sweet, featuring her radio hit Momma Momma. This 50s nostalgia act had just formed in 1969, and their set at Woodstock helped catapult them to national fame, with their cover of At The Hop making it into the documentary.

This album is good, but it ain't THAT good. I am a big fan of Ravi Shankar's work and a fan of the Woodstock Festival as well, but I bought this CD several years ago for seven dollars. I am glad I bought it, but if it had not been an economy disc, I would have passed it by. If you do not have this CD, wait for it to be re-released (if it ever is). It is better not to have this album at all than to pay a rip-off price. First off, this may have been recorded at Woodstock, but it is not rock, pop, folk or any other "popular" music. Also, because it was recorded at an overcrowded concert in the middle of a farm, during a rainstorm, the recording itself is not the best. That being said, this album contains some brilliant playing. Ravi is spectacular, Alla Rakha is unbelivable, especially on his solo, and the interplay between them at the climax of Raga Manj Khamaj is breathtaking.

The Indian music genius Ravi Shankar was a special guest at the Woodstock festival. He made his first appearance to the western world at the Monterey International Pop Festival in 1967, followed by an invitation from Beatle George Harrison.

Ravi Shankar was born in Papanasam, Tamil Nadu to Visalakshi Ratnam and R. S. Venkat Ratnam. He was named "Ravi" (a common Indian name meaning "sun") because his birth was on a Sunday, and "Shankar" after the eighth-century Hindu saint, Adi Shankara, because it was also Shankara's birthday. Ravi Shankar's first teacher was Sudhakar Chaturvedi, an Indian Vedic Scholar and a close associate of Mahatma Gandhi.

Originally slated to perform on the first day following Ravi Shankar; declined to perform during the rainstorm and were moved to the second day. Canned Heat. An album titled Jimi Hendrix: Woodstock was also released in August 1994, featuring only selected recordings of Jimi Hendrix at the festival. In July 1999, MCA Records released Live at Woodstock, a double-disc recording (longer than Jimi Hendrix: Woodstock) featuring nearly every song of Hendrix's performance, omitting just two pieces that were sung by his rhythm guitarist Larry Lee.
