The Clash is the debut studio album by English punk rock band the Clash. It was released on 8 April 1977 through CBS Records. Written and recorded over three weeks in February of 1977 for a paltry £4,000, it would go one to reach on the UK charts, and has been included on many retrospective rankings as one of the greatest punk albums of all time

The Essential Clash is a two disc set, with fourty of the bands most well known songs. The songs span throughout the guys' career, from their self-titled effort to the lackluster Cut The Crap that eventually proved the downfall of the band. Because I'm such a fan of The Clash, however, I felt more than obligated to at least check the record out. In doing so, I was kind of let down. Everything on the album is stuff that I already know.
