Ludwig Drums is a US manufacturer of percussion instruments. The brand achieved significant popularity in the 1960s, through the endorsement of Beatles drummer Ringo Starr. The Ludwig Drum Company was established in 1909 by William F. & Theobald Ludwig, sons of a German immigrant to the United States.

Ludwig & Ludwig was sold and the business was moved to Elkhart, Indiana. But in 1937, at the age of 58, William decided to get back in the game. He bought a factory building at 1728 N. Damen and named the new firm the Wm. F. Ludwig Drum Company. In Paul William Schmidt's 1991 book, History of the Ludwig Drum Company (lots of cool pictures), William J. s son, William III, recalled that event: Back in the early 1960’s we used to watch the Ed Sullivan Show every Sunday night-that was standard fare. Dueling Banjos" is an instrumental composition by Arthur "Guitar Boogie" Smith. The song was composed in 1954 by Smith as a banjo instrumental he called "Feudin' Banjos," which contained riffs from "Yankee Doodle. Smith recorded it in 1955 playing a four-string plectrum banjo and accompanied by five-string bluegrass banjo player Don Reno.

Burroughs initially drew acclaim as a one of the leaders of the 50s Beat movement, alongside friends and peers Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg. His acclaimed publications, notably 'The Naked Lunch', 'The Soft Machine', 'The Ticket That Exploded' and 'Nova Express', exhibited the "cut-up" technique first espoused by fellow-writer Bryon Gysin, in which passages and texts were cut and reassembled to create unconscious writing. The pair subsequently brought the same method to recording during their stay at the "Beat Hotel' in Paris.
