Pedro Iturralde Quintet Featuring Paco De Lucia - Flamenco-Jazz ‎(LP, Album, Gat). Sb 15 143 st. Germany. Pedro Iturralde Quintet Featuring Paco De Lucia. Pedro Iturralde Quintet Featuring Paco De Lucia - Flamenco-Jazz ‎(LP, Album). Flamenco Jazz ‎(LP, Album, RE, Gat).

Spanish saxophonist Pedro Iturralde, under the influence of Miles Davis's classic jazz flamenco fusion album Sketches of Spain, incorporated flamenco melodies in his repertoire as he toured Europe in the 1960s. Iturralde brought along a 19 year old flamenco musician named Paco de Lucía, who would become an international star as one of the greatest flamenco musicians of our time and would remain active in jazz until his death in 2014. Jazz and flamenco first crossed paths not in Spain, but in the USA when Miles Davis and arranger/composer Gil Evans recorded Sketches of Spain in November.

Jazz and flamenco first crossed paths not in Spain, but in the USA when Miles Davis and arranger/composer Gil Evans recorded Sketches of Spain in November 1959 and March 1960. It became one of the most successful jazz albums of all time. And the jazz musicians in Spain? They attempted to emulate – as did their colleagues world-wide – the American model. Jazz stood for open-mindedness; national folklore was thought of as too parochial. musicians Pedro Iturralde – tenor saxophone Paco De Lucía – flamenco guitar Erich Peter – bass Peer Wyboris – drums Paul Grassl – piano Dino Piana – trombone. Produced by Joachim Ernst Berendt.
