The Best Contemporary Gospel Album category has been combined with the Best Traditional Gospel Album (among others; the history of various gospel album awards includes the Best Contemporary R&B Gospel Album and the Best Southern, Bluegrass, or Country Gospel Album awards, which are also no longer part of the Grammy Awards) to form the new category, Best Gospel Album. This year’s contenders for the Best Gospel Album award include Erica Campbell, Smokie Norful, William McDowell, Ricky Dillard and New G, and Anita Wilson. It’s an incredible selection-but keeping the categories separate might have meant that even more incredible artists could be included in this year’s Grammy nominees.
