The electronic music group Tangerine Dream has released more than one hundred albums, singles, EPs and compilations since the group was formed in 1967. Tangerine Dream's releases have been divided into several eras based on the record label of the time. Tangerine Dream's first releases were on the Ohr label.
Fans of mid-'70s era Tangerine Dream will more than likely be excited by this double-disc offering of new material issued by Cleopatra. Essentially, Edgar Froese, the only original member of the group, went back into the storage closet and hauled out a few tons of vintage gear: sequencers, analog synths, primitive drum machines, and assorted keyboards to revisit the sound of past albums like Stratosfear, Phaedra, and Rubycon

Both Schnitzler and Schulze would depart after this album, with the latter forming Ash Ra Tempel and going on to become the other major proponent of the "Berlin School". Second album, Alpha Centauri, saw the addition of long-standing member Christopher Franke replacing Schulze, while Peter Baumann would come aboard for Zeit. Although unissued until the mid-1980s, Green Desert was recorded in 1973. The core of Froese, Franke and Baumann would sign to Virgin Records in 1973, and the subsequent release Phaedra would cement their style for years to come.
