Today! is the second studio album, but third body of work recorded by folk/country blues musician Mississippi John Hurt. It was released in 1966 by Vanguard Records. This album contains some of the first commercial material recorded after his "rediscovery" in 1963, and is the first he recorded for Vanguard. The album spans several genres and styles of music, ranging from traditional blues and folk songs, to country, to African-American spirituals.

John Smith Hurt, better known as Mississippi John Hurt (July 3, 1893 or March 8, 1892 - November 2, 1966) was an American country blues singer and guitarist. Raised in Avalon, Mississippi, Hurt taught himself how to play the guitar around age nine. He first recorded for Okeh Records in 1928, but these were commercial failures. Hurt then drifted out of the recording scene, and he continued his work as a farmer.
Album: Avalon Blues (1963). Get the Sheet Music License This Song. Hurt provides a spoken introduction on this song where he explains that he's brand-loyal to Maxwell's House coffee, but the girl who used to make it for him up and left, and now he's stuck making his own brew, and it just won't do. Of course, it's not really the coffee he misses. This is the song that provided the band name for the Lovin' Spoonful, as that phrase is repeated a few times in the lyric. Lovin' Spoonful founder John Sebastian, known for his talents on harmonica, had been performing with Hurt around the time he formed the band in 1965. When he told Fritz Richmond, a jug player in the Kweskin Jug Band, about his new group, he described it as a cross between Hurt and Chuck Berry.
