Swedish singer, songwriter, and keyboardist Anna von Hausswolff issued her debut full-length Singing from the Grave in 2012. Despite its sobering title, the album was full of melodic, fragile, Gothic ballads. On Ceremony, the term "Gothic" applies even more here than on its predecessor, yet the music has progressed almost immeasurably. Von Hausswolff employed an Annedal church organ as her primary instrument on this date (it's on nine of the 13 songs), though she also plays piano and synth

Starts off with 10 minutes of instrumental...organ/drum/electric guitar, like a dark version of a mass, like the beginning of a progressive metal album...but Anna's vocals come in, sounding a lot like Kate Bush...but changing away from that for most of the rest of the set. The whole thing sounds like dealing with loss...death...deep personal sadness that seems to go as deep as holocaust hurt, moods changing from a church funeral to outside alone at a gravesite...back home to an empty house, outside among the trees and running through all the varieties of grief and remembrance that comes with death and life.

...saw her as support for the SWANS. Very good! The album here is in the pictures as you describe, very well.
