A multi-band Fan Dipole made from a few bits of wire, some plastic spreaders and tuned to the bands that interest you. Mine is 40m, 20m, 15. 15m Dipole The 15m wires are there because the 40m wires do not present a significant dip as an odd-harmonic. The above combination gives me under 3:1 VSWR on 40m, 20m, 15m, and 12m. A little bit of help from my MFJ-948 is required on 17m+10m. Because I’ve added a resonant 20m dipole, the previous 17m null is now at 1. MHz. Update 6th March 2014 : After some tests with a 2nd version, I have managed to improve the reliability of the SWR – quite simply: longer PVC spreaders!
The Arctic dipole anomaly is a pressure pattern characterized by high pressure on the arctic regions of North America and low pressure on those of Eurasia. This pattern sometimes replaces the Arctic oscillation and the North Atlantic oscillation. The Arctic dipole lets more southern winds into the Arctic Ocean resulting in more ice melting
Finally I decided for a linear loaded dipole; the layout and resulting dimensions are shown below. First measurements at the resonance frequency showed a low input impedance at the dipole’s feed point with values around 10 Ohm. The theoretical radiation resistance of a 2 x . m short dipole would be 10 Ohm, so it is an indication of low losses in the system
Example of how to calculate dipole tilt angle: print dipole tilt(datetime(1927, 6, 10, 12, 00), epoch 1927). One can also give several times as input, and the tilt angle will be calculated for each of them. Since the calculations are entirely based on array calculations, this is quite fast. The epoch keyword is the year (with fraction) for which the dipole axis is calculated. This is done from IGRF coefficients, using linear interpolation between models. Setting the epoch is optional, and the default value is 2015. One can provide either one value for the epoch, or one value for each input.
