Sessions was a compilation album by the Beatles planned for release by EMI in 1984 but never issued due to objections by the surviving Beatles. The album consisted of thirteen finished but unreleased Beatles songs. A planned single containing two of the tracks from Sessions – "Leave My Kitten Alone", backed with an alternative version of "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" – was also left unissued. The idea was resurrected in 1995 as The Beatles Anthology.
RUBBER SOUL was originally released December 6, 1965 in the . This mid-Sixties album catches the Beatles at the point they ceased to be interested in churning out one dance hit after another and started experimenting with more exotic styles. Norwegian Wood," for example, is in the Mixolydian mode, as opposed to a regular "Major" key. Other hits include "You Won't See Me, "The Word" and "Michelle.
Rubber Soul was also the last Beatles album for which Norman Smith manned the control desk. He took his leave after six albums and eleven singles going on to produce Pink Floyd and later still to enjoy success as 'Hurricane' Smith. The front cover photograph of Rubber Soul was again taken by Robert Freeman but the way the faces appear slightly distorted on the sleeve was a result on a happy accident while the image was being projected. It is also interesting to note that the group's name is absent from the front of the sleeve.
Rubber Soul is the sixth studio album by English rock band the Beatles. Rubber Soul was commercially successful, beginning a 42-week run in the British charts on 12 December 1965. The following week it replaced The Sound of Music soundtrack at the top of the charts, and held the top spot eight weeks. On 9 May 1987, Rubber Soul returned to the album charts for three weeks, and ten years later made another comeback to the charts. In the United States, it topped the Billboard Top LP’s chart on 8 January 1966. The album held that position for six weeks in total, remaining in the top 20 until the start of July, before leaving the top-200 listings in mid December.
