David Bowie is the self-titled debut studio album by English musician David Bowie, released on 1 June 1967, on Deram Records. Its style and content bears little overt resemblance to the type of music that he was later known for, such as the folk rock influenced "Space Oddity" or the glam rock of The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.

Born David Robert Jones in 1947 in South London, Bowie was playing sax on a semi-professional basis by 1963, while working for a London ad agency. In the same year he formed his own group, Davy Jones & the Lower Third, who released a couple of obscure and now very valuable R&B flavoured singles in the mid-Sixties. In 1966, after signing to Pye he changed his surname to Bowie to prevent confusion with David Jones of the Monkees.
David Bowie’s final album, Blackstar, debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, giving the late music legend his first No. 1 album. Bowie died on Jan. 10 of cancer, two days after the release of the album. Blackstar was issued through ISO/Columbia Records and earned 181,000 equivalent album units in the . during the week ending Jan. 14, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 174,000 were in pure album sales - Bowie’s biggest sales week for an album since Nielsen began electronically tracking point-of-sale music purchases in 1991.
