Screen Memories is the fourth studio album by American musician John Maus, released on October 27, 2017. The album was his first set of newly-recorded music since We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves (2011). Recorded in two years at his Austin, Minnesota home, most of the its subject matter concerns apocalyptic themes inspired by the newsfeed of world events he garnered while making the LP. Some of its song structures and melodies were created with the aid of an artificial neural network.

John Cooper Lawton (born 11 July 1946 in Halifax, England) is a rock and blues vocalist best known for his work with Lucifer's Friend, Uriah Heep and the Les Humphries Singers. Lawton began his musical career in North Shields, UK, in the early '60s with The Deans, a bunch of kids who decided at random that he should be singer. He then moved on to West One and later Stonewall which included John Miles, Vic Malcolm (later of Geordie) and Paul Thompson (later of Roxy Music).

House Of Memories is the tenth song off Panic! at the Disco’s fifth studio album, Death of a Bachelor. Coinciding perfectly with the title of the album, the song’s dispirited lyrics talk about the realization of how finally being wedded to the one you love, can almost seem worse than being alone. Brendon comes to grips with the fact that the fantasies he once dreamed of, can fall short of what is a reality when it comes to finally settling down or marrying. Brendon and his lover built the foundation of their relationship (the strongest part) on short-lived passion-something that cannot last.

Screen Memories-which will be followed early next year by another album of new material, Addendum-does indeed sound pretty similar, sonically, to 2011’s We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves, the album that launched the former Ariel Pink collaborator into the upper echelons of indie rock fame. Given the album’s lengthy gestation, you can understand why Maus might be disappointed with how much he still sounds just like himself. For the rest of us, though, it’s a thrill to encounter his self-assured and singular voice. While the actual apocalypse shows no signs of slowing down, Screen Memories strikes a chord in a way that most blatantly political albums never quite manage. As society crumbles, John Maus’ commitment to being John Maus is inspiring, tapping an unexpected synchronicity with our doomed world.
