One of the pioneers of rockabilly, LaBeef provides good fun on CD as well, as one listen to Rockabilly Blues makes clear. According to the liner notes included with this extraordinary album, M. abeef himself thinks it may be his best record. It's easy to see why. Though it is a collection of left-overs from previous recording sessions, it plays like Sleepy's most focused album. But, for Sleepy, the blues cannot be confined to a formula. His take on the blues includes elements of country, gospel, bluegrass, and, of course, rockabilly. The performances here are among the most energetic and committed that I have heard on a Sleepy LaBeef album
