Rufus Wainwright seems only fitfully interested in being a pop musician. That's certainly his prerogative, but it's not great for those who love the things he can do with a four-minute tune. He should be lauded for allowing nothing to dictate his artistic choices, with the understanding that such boldness opens him up for criticism when he bites off more than he can chew. Wainwright gets closer than ever to that vanishing point of self-absorption on his latest effort, All Days Are Nights: Songs for Lulu. The only things you hear on the album are Wainwright's voice and his piano, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

All Days Are Nights: Songs for Lulu. All Days Are Nights: Songs for Lulu is the sixth studio album by Canadian-American singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright, first released in Canada through Decca Records on March 23, 2010. The album was produced by Wainwright (with Pierre Marchand on three tracks), and mixed by Marchand, who produced Wainwright's second album, Poses (2001).

The album title All Days Are Nights: Songs For Lulu is both a reference to Shakespeare's Sonnet 43 and Rufus own concept of Lulu, which he describes as a "dark, brooding, dangerous woman that lives within all of u. Lulu is Louise Brooks who starred in the film,'Pandora's Bo. Rufus admits that recording All Days Are Nights: Songs For Lulu was one of the most difficult things he has ever done. After hiding behind a 70-piece orchestra with my opera you can blame everything on the tuba player  . Wainwright was nominated for a Grammy for the live recording from his Carnegie Hall concert, Rufus Does Judy At Carnegie Hall, which has been released concurrently with a live DVD, Rufus! Rufus! Rufus!

Less than a year after the premiere of his first opera, "Prima Donna," Rufus Wainwright embarks on a simpler musical journey with his sixth studio album, "All Days Are Nights: Songs for Lulu. With nine original songs and three adaptations of Shakespearean sonnets, Wainwright's solo piano accompaniment highlights his extremely adaptable voice in a different manner from previous efforts. On "Sonnet 43," where Shakespeare's narrator longs for his absent lover, Wainwright reaches the lowest range of his rich tenor over gentle chords.

Rufus Wainwright is the eponymous debut studio album by Canadian-American singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright, released in the United States on May 19, 1998 through DreamWorks Records. The album was produced by Jon Brion, with the exception of "In My Arms", which was produced and mixed by Pierre Marchand, and "Millbrook" and "Baby", which were produced by Brion and Van Dyke Parks. All Days Are Nights: Songs for Lulu. Take All My Loves: 9 Shakespeare Sonnets.

Album · 2010 · 13 Songs. The spare, dramatic work on All Days Are Nights is a mixed bag of sorts, though the sonics and somber mood never waver. Wainwright wrote this material during the long struggle of his mother (musician Kate McGarrigle) with cancer, and the record came together in the wake.
