Mysterious techno imprint drops 5 12″ wooden box set. Putting out hand-stamped dub techno 12″s can be an austere business. With sixteen singles and a trio of LPs under their belts since 2010, Knowone first broke their own rules back in 2013 to release a sleek black box set containing 12 records in a folding book design. Now, they’ve pushed things that bit further, to release this gorgeous, embossed wooden box set. When Knowone goes deluxe, they don’t do things by half

Great work by grad_u. For every dub techno collector !
  • Buzalas
Hi !Atsounding as usual but I don't want the vinyl versions.Does anybody have the cd version please ?If it's the case contact me (pm). Thanks in advance. P.
  • Memuro
Mine was sealed. No CD included. Anyone have this mistake? They responded saying they would "ask about it" and didn't answer my question as to mail me one. Mine was shrink wrapped on arrival like description above and ordered from redeye. Unfortunate they can't just mail me one guven the price. Meh..EDIT: They had sent me a CD in a few weeks. Nice to have the digital so i don't have to play these to dustThe music kicks ass tho. Excellent analog old school sounding dubs As far as who(s) "Knowone" is I'm sure its a few veterans. I'd have to accuse Fluxion, (as some of these remind me of his work on chain reaction), also Steve O'Sullivan (of course), JS, Mr. Cloudy, to name a few. not important, but just a feeling given the level these are on and familiarity with their catalogs. we'll never know (yet haha)
  • Faugami
Ahh man! Looks like i got the short end of the bargain ha. Will report if they get back to me or not, i've contacted both label and RedEye(normal record store, pretty much great service when I've had issues in the past.)But its a pretty good screw up given the limited/expensive nature of this release! Hopefully mine is the only one..
  • AnnyMars
Cripes..Nope mine was shrinkwrapped as well but had the cd inside..Got it from HardWax..You should ask for a partial refund on this..This is a serious mistake.
Can anybody confirm if the soundquality of the CD/Vinyl is good. Some friend told me sound is like recorded from an old tape - really bad. thanks
  • Fountain_tenderness
Yea much of of this material was likely recorded in an analog studio, more tape hiss please. All warm fat and delicious records to me...
  • spacebreeze
My vinyl had absolutely brilliant sound, very, very good. CD not listened.
  • Windworker
Anyone know what the 8 shaped card that comes with box set is? Sticker?
  • ndup
the 8 shaped card is their 'vinyl caddy' meant to be folded in half and used to handle the vinyl disks.
  • Delalbine
it is a Vinyl holder so that you dont touch the Surface from your records
  • Monam
dub techno is presented here in the one and only way it should be presented! ...amazing!the sound: classic, deep as hell! ...amazing too!
  • Ffan
wow, really gallant and courageous done without Stigma. some tracks going on experience but never leave the dub Techno universe. powerful and thoughtful custom made trips, you can think about everthing and everything is possible.
  • Celen
Sounds really good but just wondering are the CDs masterglass or CDr's ?
  • Gogal
Ignore answer as I answered my own question by mistake. Was meant to answer a question on a different forum but had too many web pages open on Discog forums on mobile and answered this by accident! Still don't know what format the discs are ?
  • Unirtay
Ignore previous reply regarding format of disc. I don't have 2 copies and don't know. I replied and answered to wrong question!
  • Arador
I've got two copies and both are on masterglass CD.
  • Siatanni
Does this release contain previously released material? Or is it all new?
Jo_se_ph Does this release contain previously released material? Or is it all new? Just listened to this album and its all new material nothing i've heard before. Very intricate and thoughtful music, the CD is for when you're not near a turntable or in the car for obvious reasons. Well worth the money, direct from Deutschland
  • Геракл
Does anyone buy a set like this to actually listen to the vinyl if the CD has the same music? Seems to me it's vinyl as fetish, bought to try for an instant flip.
  • Nirad
Well written! Great explanation of the process. Appreciate the Echospace reference too for comparison.

There has to be 2 different masters.the phono pre-amp makes up the bass and highs. A digital master output to a lathe would break the cutting head with the amount of frequencies in this music. In response to 'I'm sure this was recorded digitally' First, there is a tape hiss that is noticeable in these tracks.., take A1, E1, B1, C1 for example, I can hear the tape hiss right from the start in my studio, very clearly in C1 and A1 actually.. which may be from the source recording studios, as it varies track to track. It's NOT a digital signal embedded in vinyl.. A digital signal is taking snapshots of the audio at different sample rates, unable to capture all the information, which is why at higher bit rates you are essentially capturing more snapshots of the audio information per second 44.4k, 88.2. 176 etc.. that is made of 1's and 0's and what information cannot be captured in the math will be truncated. When music is put on acetate and then wax, especially from analog sources... there is theoretically infinite resolution, all the information is there, not restricted by a sample rate. It is storing the vibrations into the physical form, the grooves of the record. There is no digital information being stored on the vinyl. Even if original pieces are made in the digital realm, if they are going to vinyl, they will have to go through D/A conversion to be put on wax, and likely very high end analog outboard gear that would make up for any lossy digital sounds, (which i don't think is the case here, overall pallet sounds very warm and analogue)Some studios i.e. Echospace Detroit and go analog from source to vinyl pressing. recording to tape, mixing down in analog and mastering to 2 track tape (Probably 1/2 inch 2 track or 1 inch 2 track if they are fancy) then to the pressing plant. its not unheard of, it is expensive though
  • Kann
I'm sure this was recorded digitally and not analog so it's actually a digital signal embedded in the vinyl. Aside from the warmth of the crackle and static, I'm pretty sure technically this probably 'sounds' better when played in a lossless digital format. Unless, of course, the original recording is analog and transferred directly to vinyl.
  • Worla
Yes, Many people know that vinyl sounds better than cd. Analog is best. The cd's are great too but when you want go deep, put on the vinyl as the artist intended to be heard. It sounds better than a digital signal. enjoy~
  • Mr.Death
Bought this from yesterday. Just curious, how limited is this really? I see it all over the place. If you call something limited it better be.
