An unofficial release 'Violant Rape" was recorded during Frank Zappa's 'Bongo Fury' Tour at the 'Music Hall' Boston on the 27th April 1975. The Original 1st European pressing on AL 01 was released on 'Clear' vinyl in 1985 housed in a deluxe laminate sleeve with B&W photograph of Zappa on the front side and the title "Violant Rape - Is One Of My Favourites" printed in bold letters on the reverse. Early pressings had a large A & B on the labels

With Captain Beefheart, Zappa recorded some songs under the name of the Soots. They were rejected by Dot Records for having "no commercial potential", a verdict Zappa subsequently quoted on the sleeve of Freak Out!:27. In 1964, after his marriage started to break up, he moved into the Pal studio and began routinely working 12 hours or more per day recording and experimenting with overdubbing and audio tape manipulation. During the recording of Freak Out!, Zappa moved into a house in Laurel Canyon with friend Pamela Zarubica, who appeared on the album. 112 The house became a meeting (and living) place for many LA musicians and groupies of the time, despite Zappa's disapproval of their illicit drug us. 122 After a short promotional tour following.

Listen to Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart's 'Advanced Romance'. Then, over the course of an intensive, 30-date . tour running from April through May 1975, Beefheart contributed harmonica, occasional sax, and numerous displays of his eccentric poetry and one-of-a-kind vocals to the ensemble’s repertoire, culminating in a two-night stand at Austin, Texas’ famed Armadillo World Headquarters, which became the basis for Bongo Fury

This is a very neat little bootleg containing a concert from the infamous "Bongofury" tour, this one in particular taking place at the Boston Music hall on April 27th 1975, during the late show. The sound quality is quite decent, considering that a number of shows from this tour (excluding of course, the more well-known soundboard recordings from El Paso and Providence) which can only be heard on sub-par audience bootlegs. It captures quite a few excellent performances from the evening, even a few songs featuring captain beefheart on vocals (Debra Kadabra, Poofter's Froth Wyoming), but I have a few minor complaints regarding the album content: 1. Side 1 and 2 are switched in terms of order that the songs were performed, and there is only 33 minutes and 56 seconds of audio on the whole lp (side 1 being 16:50, side 2 being 17:06) and 2. considering the unbelievable amount of other incredible songs performed that night (Let's make the water turn black, the torture never stops, willie the pimp) I believe that they would have fit at least one or two more on the single lp. Pushing that aside though, this is a very enjoyable listen the whole way through, its got some super good renditions of "Montana" and "Florentine Pogen" and of course it is a treat to hear captain beefheart on vocals. Because I think that the track list currently displayed on this page doesn't give enough information about the album's content, I'm going to leave a more detailed tracklist for anybody considering buying this album to glance over:*Denotes Captain Beefheart On VocalsSide A: 16:501. Montana: 9:392. Florentine Pogen (incl. Band Outros): 7:11Side B: 17:061. Frank Zappa Guitar Improvisation: 2:332. *Debra Kadabra: 4:443. Preamble (incl. Band Intros): 1:124. *Poofter's Froth Wyoming Plans Ahead: 2:485. Echidna's Arf (of you): 0:376. George Duke Keyboard Improvisation (incl. the first few bars of "the torture never stops" beginning around the end of the song): 5:12Despite what the track list on this page says, it doesn't appear that "Don't you ever wash that thing?" was recorded at this gig.
