Lester Raymond Brown (March 14, 1912 – January 4, 2001) was an American jazz musician who led the big band Les Brown and His Band of Renown for nearly seven decades from 1938 to 2000. Brown was born in Reinerton, Pennsylvania. He enrolled in the Conway Military Band School (later part of Ithaca College) in 1926, studying with famous bandleader Patrick Conway for three years before receiving a music scholarship to the New York Military Academy, where he graduated in 1932.
Released on the 1968 various artists holiday soul album Soul Christmas. Also recorded by Bon Jovi for the 1987 various artists holiday compilation A Very Special Christmas (though it was removed from later pressings), and sampled by Run-D. for their hit, "Christmas in Hollis" (which was also included on A Very Special Christmas). Was a hit in 1949 with three separate recordings, by country singer Tubb, by bandleader Hugo Winterhalter and his Orchestra, and by bandleader Russ Morgan and His Orchestra. Also a charted hit for Elvis Presley (1957), The Browns featuring Jim Edward Brown (1960), Vince Gill (1998), Clay Walker (2000), and Harry Connick, Jr.
Earlier this year his Large Ensemble dropped its strongest album yet, All Can Work (New Amsterdam), which resonates more for me with every listen-it rarely connects directly with conventional big-band jazz, focusing instead of vibrant harmony, intricate moving parts, and bursts of sonic color.
There are many famous album covers, but we’ve put together what we believe are the 100 greatest album covers. Just what is it that makes an album cover great? The weight of public opinion counts for a lot and undoubtedly the quality of the music helps our mindset on the matter, but there’s also that little old thing called subjectivity.

Christmas Collection, Vol. 7. Various Artists. James Kern ( Kay ) Kyser (1905 – 1985) was a famous bandleader and one of the first to become a radio celebrity. He was the son of pharmacists Paul Bynum Kyser and Emily Royster Howell Kyser, and a cousin of Vermont C. Royster. A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, his campus popularity and enthusiasm as a cheerleader caused him to be invited to join a commercial band being formed by other students. Although he started clarinet lessons, he was better as an entertaining announcer for the band than as a musician.
Bandleader shouts out classics including Judas Priest’s ‘Sad Wings of Destiny’ and Morbid Angel’s ‘Altars of Madness’. He made this famous quote, which I’m not sure I should repeat, about the Stormbringer record being shoeshine music. It’s allegedly what he said to Glenn Hughes about his songs on there. But it’s a really, really good album, I think. It deserves a place in any top-10 hard-rock list. I did a few concept records on my own. Starting with our third album, My Arms, Your Hearse, and the one after, Still Life, and to a certain extent, Ghost Reveries. They were influenced by King Diamond because I wanted to write concept records just like he did. So he was the main reason why I gave it a try.
Music for a Royal Wedding.
