Meet Danny Wilson was the debut album from the Scottish pop group Danny Wilson. It became a significant hit in America on the strength of the summer of 1987 hit single "Mary's Prayer. All tracks composed by Gary Clark. Mary's Prayer" (3:52). Lorraine Parade" (3:40). Nothing Ever Goes to Plan" (3:46). Broken China" (4:25). Steamtrains to the Milky Way" (4:27). Spencer-Tracey" (1:27). You Remain an Angel" (4:53).

Danny Wilson and partner Mike make a meager living singing in dives and hustling pool. One night they meet entertainer Joy Carroll, who gets them a job at racketeer Nick Driscoll's posh nightclub. But Nick wants a high price: half of Danny's future income. Danny's career skyrockets, but his position at the top of the heap, and his one-sided romance with Joy, prove extremely unstable.

Meet Danny Wilson was the debut album from the Scottish pop group Danny Wilson. This dissatisfaction, coupled with the record company looking for big singles from the album, meant the band felt compelled to try and capture the song again. The CD version was produced by Glen Skinner, while the vinyl version was produced by Dave Bascombe, who also produced the song "Mary's Prayer" from the same album. Broken China" appears in 2 reprise versions in "Spencer-Tracey" and in the end of "Five Friendly Aliens"

There's a cult of Meet Danny Wilson lovers and if you ever ask them about the album, a Steely Dan comparison is bound to come up. It's not without merit, and considering that the other bands the album might remind you of - Deacon Blue and Fairground Attraction - aren't on the tip of much of anyone's tongue, Steely Dan is at close as it comes. But the Dan never sounded this lively, this exuberant, this finger-snapping. If that makes them sound light as feather, keep in mind that Lloyd Cole loves this record

This release differs from the original Virgin LP and CD releases in that track 11, "A Girl I Used To Know", was reportedly re-recorded, or at the very least, significantly remixed. In the credits, the original producer credit for that track had been "Dave Bascombe at the Townhouse and Marcus Studios in London"; for this release, that credit was replaced by "Glen Skinner at Wessex Studios."
According to a note about the "Meet Danny Wilson" album on its page at Wikipedia, the band themselves claimed to be dissatisfied with the original released version of that song and opted to re-record it in an attempt to produce a version that would satisfy their record company's hopes for another hit single.
