Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1 is the fourth studio album by American rapper Lupe Fiasco, released on September 25, 2012. Production for the album took place between 2009 and 2012. The album was intended to be released in June 2009, but was postponed due to the Lasers album. Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1 features production by The Audibles, 1500 or Nothin', B-Side, DJ Simonsayz, The Runners, and long-time collaborator Soundtrakk, among others
His new album is called Food & Liquor II, overtly promising a return to his first and still best-loved album, and most of its production comes courtesy of his old standbys (Soundtrakk, 1500 or Nothin'). Save for the usual nu-metal hard-rock vocalizing on many of the choruses, it is his most relaxed, rewarding effort in a while, and at its best, it feels like a re-introduction to a promising artist who spent some time in the wilderness. At its worst, it's plagued by the same empty cleverness and strident moralizing that has always dragged down Lupe's music
As that album was in limbo, Fiasco began working on his confusingly titled fourth album, a 69-minute "part one" of a sequel to his 2006 debut. It's most certainly not a Lasers sequel. There's no obvious attempt to repeat earlier pop chart successes, and its introduction is indicative, similar to that of 2007's elaborately conceptual The Cool, with Fiasco's sister Ayesha Jaco contributing some more of her commanding poetry.

Nearly six years ago, a skater kid from Chicago made his solo debut with the excellent Food and Liquor and created a bona fide manifesto that spoke to socially conscious ’80s babies. With Food & Liquor 2: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1, Rap's resident Judo master of juxtaposition sounds inspired again, dishing out shifting dichotomies through a scattering of deliveries without encroaching on petulance. Entertainment Weekly. Food & Liquor II is fine and good. It's just not The Great American Rap Album. 40. Fiasco is not without skills or beliefs, but neither are as refined as his self-regard.
