When Led Zeppelin first toured the United States in early 1969, they opened for Vanilla Fudge on some shows. The band's biggest hit was its cover of "You Keep Me Hangin' On," a slowed-down, hard rocking version of a song originally recorded by The Supremes. This version featured Stein's psychedelic-baroque organ intro and Appice's energetic drumming. It was a Top 10 hit in Canada, the United States, and Australia and a Top 20 hit in the UK in 1967  . In 2015, Vanilla Fudge released its first album in ten years, Spirit of '67 to widespread critical acclaim. As of 2018, Vanilla Fudge is still performing concerts regularly. - Near the Beginning. Near The Beginning is a music studio album recording by VANILLA FUDGE (ve Rock) released in 1969 on cd, lp, vinyl and/or cassette. The band& sound and style maybe inlfuenced other bands in their early stages (Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Led Zeppelin). But ithis album has some excess in some parts.

On stage, the group’s act is a balanced blend of unaffected musicianship - particularly Page – and strong physical presence – particularly vocalist Robert Plant. I caught the beginning of Buffalo Springfield’s For What It’s Worth during Fresh Garbage, as well as the end of Summertime and picked up on By The Time I Get to Phoenix in Babe. But she won by spotting, of all things, Green Door in the middle of the encore, Dazed and Confused. That's how he met Led Zeppelin backstage, before they played their first Chicago concert on Feb. 7, 1969, when they were booked as the opening act for Vanilla Fudge.

Launch Radio Networks reports: VANILLA FUDGE are in southern California this week, recording an album of LED ZEPPELIN covers. Drummer Carmine Appice gave Launch the scoop on what the band is doing. Basically, we rearranged some songs - we're doing a lot of their stuff FUDGE style, you know? Some of it is slowed down, and some of it is speeded up, and some of it has additional parts added. Boy, we got some great stuff. Our manager came down and was flipping out about i. Appice also told Launch there's a preliminary title for the album.

Led Zeppelin play their first concert in America, opening for Vanilla Fudge at a show in Denver. After playing 16 small shows in the UK, Led Zeppelin headed to America over Christmas to kick off their first US tour, starting out as an opening act for Vanilla Fudge, known for their heavy cover of "You Keep Me Hangin' O. On the first show, in Denver, they are third on the bill, behind a mercurial California band called Spirit, whose song "Taurus" sounds very similar to the intro of "Stairway To Heaven," which Led Zeppelin releases in 1971

Led Zeppelin had a fully formed, distinctive sound from the outset, as their eponymous debut illustrates. Taking the heavy, distorted electric blues of Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, and Cream to an extreme, Zeppelin created a majestic, powerful brand of guitar rock constructed around simple, memorable riffs and lumbering rhythms. But the key to the group's attack was subtlety: it wasn't just an onslaught of guitar noise, it was shaded and textured, filled with alternating dynamics and tempos. As Led Zeppelin proves, the group was capable of such multi-layered music from the start. Although the album isn't as varied as some of their later efforts, it nevertheless marked a significant turning point in the evolution of hard rock and heavy metal.
