Acoustic guitarist Earl Klugh has always had an appealing sound, but so many of his recordings are sleepy affairs that do not raise themselves above the level of background music. This early session definitely falls into that category, and its reissue as a Blue Note CD reminds one of the swift decline of that label in the 1970s.

Klugh's first recording, at age fifteen, was on Yusef Lateef's Suite 16. He played on George Benson's White Rabbit album and two years later, in 1973, joined his touring band. Earl Klugh is the debut album of Earl Klugh released in 1976. It features Louis Johnson on bass and guest appearances of Lee Ritenour on electric guitar.
