1984 (For the Love of Big Brother). 1984 (For the Love of Big Brother) is a soundtrack album by British musical duo Eurythmics. It was released on 12 November 1984 by Virgin Records and contains music recorded by the duo for the 1984 film Nineteen Eighty-Four, based on George Orwell's dystopian novel of the same name. Virgin Films produced the film for release in its namesake year, and commissioned Eurythmics to write a soundtrack.

Music derived from Eurythmics' original score for the motion picture 1984. These early reissues were subject to the famouse PDO 'disc rot' and were repressed for free replacements. Matrix patterns for these represses are CDV 0701 XX %. There is a very similar version which was printed in West Germany - 1984 (For The Love Of Big Brother)

In November 1984, Virgin Records released the Eurythmics soundtrack album, featuring considerably altered versions of their music heard in the film, under the title 1984 (For the Love of Big Brother). The album reached number 23 on the UK Album Chart, and was later certified Gold by the BPI for sales in excess of 100,000 copies. A song from the album, "Sexcrime (Nineteen Eighty-Four)", was released as a single just prior to the album and became one of Eurythmics' biggest hits, peaking at number 4 and was awarded. a Silver disc for sales in excess of 200,000 copies

This album was pulled from the shelves early due to legal disputes going on with the Movie Studio and Record Label. For the Love of Big Brother" was the Eurythmics sound track attempt for the film "1984" starring John Hurt and Richard Burton. It had the UK hit "Sexcrime: 1984" which never made it mainstream in the states. I believe because MTV wouldn't give the video much air time due to the word "Sex" in the title! Silly, but it was the 80's after all. I personally LOVE "every" song on the album and find it to be extremely original.

Listen free to Eurythmics – 1984 (For The Love Of Big Brother) (I Did It Just The Same, Sexcrime (Nineteen Eighty-Four) and more). There have been versions of the movie using Eurythmic's music and using mostly orchestral music as a soundtrack. The director Michael Radford was not too happy with Eurythmic's contribution and claimed, it had been forced onto the movie. David Stewart on the other hand claimed to have acted in good faith. It's one of those albums where the story behind it might be as interesting as the music. The band was commissioned by Virgin Films to write music for the soundtrack of their upcoming film Nineteen Eighty-Four, based on the dystopian George Orwell novel about a future where everything is controlled by a dishonest and malevolent government

The original score of the motion picture 1984, it was treated as a side project for marketing purposes, not as Eurythmics' full-fledged fourth new studio album. Much of the album is instrumental, and the closest thing to a pop song, "Sexcrime (Nineteen Eighty-Four)" (which was a Top Ten hit in the . like the other vocal numbers, relates to the movie's future fiction theme. As such, the album is substandard if judged as an independent Eurythmics album, adequate if judged as a soundtrack.
